Yemen is enduring one of the most severe humanitarian crises in the world today. With 24.1 million people – 80 percent of the population – requiring humanitarian aid and protection, it has become the largest crisis of its kind globally. Over 14 million people are in urgent need of assistance, and since 2015, more than three million individuals have been displaced from their homes.
Years of conflict have severely impacted livelihoods, displaced numerous families, and brought many to the brink of starvation. The breakdown of essential public services, including healthcare, water, sanitation, and education, has worsened the already critical situation. Prior to the conflict, Yemen was already the poorest nation in the Arab region, facing challenges such as low human development, high population growth, recurrent local conflicts, chronic food insecurity, and an unstable political environment.
The economic situation in Yemen is dire, with the country having lost $90 billion in economic output and over 600,000 jobs. Currently, 58% of the population lives in extreme poverty.
